Education Service Commission jobs: how to apply on the ESC eRecruitment portal

Create your ESC account, find the post, apply online and keep proof of submission, with the documents recent ESC adverts ask for and what the paper ESC Form No. 3 is for.

The Education Service Commission (ESC) recruits teachers and other staff for the education service, and its 2026 adverts, such as the one for KCCA primary schools, took applications only through its online portal. The portal is simple, but applications still fail because of an unconfirmed account, a missing scan or a form saved and never submitted. This guide walks through each step as the ESC applicant manual and its 2026 adverts describe it. For how the ESC fits with the other public service commissions, start with our guide to government jobs in Uganda.

Check that the post is an ESC post

The ESC applicant manual says the Commission is responsible for almost 70% of Uganda's public sector workforce: staff of the Ministry of Education headquarters, government secondary schools, tertiary, technical, teacher training and business training institutions, education staff under Kampala Capital City Authority and education posts in other ministries. Its External Advert No. 1 of 2026, for example, recruited Education Assistants for KCCA primary schools.

Posts in the service of a district or city are usually advertised by that district or city service commission, with its own form and address. Read who issued the advert before you prepare anything.

Prepare before you open the portal

  • An email address you control. The manual says every applicant needs an email to create a profile, and the 2026 advert tells applicants to create one if they do not have it.
  • A scanned passport size photograph in jpg, jpeg or png format, as External Advert No. 1 of 2026 asks.
  • Scans of your academic documents. For the 2026 Education Assistant posts these were the UCE and UACE certificates, the Grade III teacher certificate and transcript, and any other relevant qualification.
  • Your registration certificate. That advert required registration with the Ministry of Education and Sports.
  • Your national and institutional identity cards.
  • The recommendation form, which the advert says is on the Publications section of the ESC website.

Read the job detail line by line first. The 2026 Education Assistant post, for instance, was for new entrants only, required applicants to be below 50 years of age and excluded anyone already on the government payroll of a district local government.

Create and confirm your account

Go to esc.go.ug and click Job Adverts at the top right. The job board opens; click Sign Up, enter the personal information the form asks for and click Create Account. The system then sends a confirmation link to your email. You cannot log in until you click that link, so check your inbox and spam folder straight away and confirm the account days before the deadline, not on the last evening.

Apply for the post and submit

  • Log in, choose Applicant's account and click Search Jobs.
  • Open View Job Detail for the post you qualify for and read it again.
  • Click Apply for Job and fill in every field of the application form that opens.
  • Upload the documents the job specification asks for.
  • Tick the declaration box and click Submit.

The portal also has Save as Draft for when you need to step away. A draft is not an application: only a submitted form counts. The manual says applications can be submitted up to 11:59 pm on the last day, and the 2026 KCCA advert closed at 11:59 pm on 24 June 2026, but the portal can be slow near a deadline. Submit early and keep a copy of your completed form, as the advert advises.

Upload only what the job asks for

The 2026 advert told applicants to upload only the documents required by the job specification and said shortlisted candidates would present the rest at the oral interview. A clean upload of the listed documents is better than a pile of everything you own. Make every scan readable, the right way up and named so you can find it again.

Where ESC Form No. 3 fits

Online adverts do not replace every paper form. ESC Form No. 3 (UGIFT/2026, revised) is the Commission's paper application for appointment in the education service. Its own notes say serving teachers and non-teaching staff complete it in triplicate in their own handwriting and send it through their head of school or college, or through the District or Area Education Officer for primary schools, while other applicants send it to the Secretary of the ESC or of the relevant District Service Commission. Only certified copies of documents should be attached, never originals.

The form asks applicants who are not in government service for two referees, one of them a former head of school or present employer, and asks serving staff for an assessment by their head of institution. Use it when an advert asks for it, and follow that advert's route for sending it.

Reset a forgotten password

On the login page, click Forgot Password, enter the email you registered with and click Submit. The portal emails a reset link. If you are logged in and only want a new password, click your profile name at the top right, enter and confirm the new password and click Update Profile.

After you submit

The 2026 advert said only shortlisted candidates would be contacted. Shortlists, aptitude test and oral interview notices appear on esc.go.ug, so check it regularly during the exercise. For portal problems the manual lists erecruit@esc.go.ug, esc@esc.go.ug and +256 414 342 347. Never pay anyone who offers to speed up your application or put you on a shortlist.

Frequently asked questions

Can I hand deliver an application for an ESC online advert?

No. External Advert No. 1 of 2026 said the application process had to be completed online and that hand delivered applications would not be accepted. Follow the method in the advert you are applying for.

What format should my passport photo be?

The 2026 ESC advert asked for a scanned passport size photograph in jpg, jpeg or png format. Scan your other documents as clearly as you can and upload them where the form asks.

I saved my application as a draft. Is that enough?

No. Save as Draft only stores your work. Open the application again, tick the declaration and click Submit before the closing time, then keep a copy of the submitted form.

Do I need to upload every certificate I have?

No. Upload the documents the job specification lists. The ESC has said shortlisted candidates present the rest of their relevant documents at the oral interview.

I did not get the confirmation email. What now?

Check your spam folder and confirm you typed the address correctly. If the link still does not arrive, contact the ESC on erecruit@esc.go.ug or esc@esc.go.ug well before the deadline.
