Nurse salary in Uganda: health worker scales for 2026/27
Monthly pay for nurses and other health workers in the public service from the 2026/27 salary structure, and the scale district adverts give for an Enrolled Nurse.
Nurses employed by the government, including those in district health facilities, are paid on Schedule 6 of the public service salary structure, which covers medical workers and health tutors. The schedule groups most posts by salary scale rather than by job title, so start with the scale on the advert or your appointment letter. District adverts in 2026 list an Enrolled Nurse at U7, and Amuru District writes it as U7 (Med).

Schedule 6 is a consolidated structure: in 2026/27 each of these scales pays one figure at every salary point, the same as in 2025/26. The schedule does not name which nursing posts sit at U6, U5 or U4, so check the scale on the advert or your appointment letter.
Find the scale on the advert
Lyantonde District advertised an Enrolled Nurse at U7 in March 2026, Amuru District advertised the same post at U7 (Med) in its internal advert of February 2026, and Jinja District advertised an Enrolled Midwife at U7 in 2025/26. The U7 (Med) row of Schedule 6 pays UGX 1,421,634 a month in 2026/27.
A different title can carry a different scale. If an advert gives only the title, ask the District Service Commission or the Health Service Commission which scale applies before you compare offers.
Private hospitals and NGOs set their own pay
Schedule 6 covers health workers in the public service. Private hospitals, faith-based facilities and NGOs agree pay in the contract and are not bound by these figures.
When we checked on 12 October 2026, none of the nursing or healthcare adverts on work.co.ug published a salary figure. Ask for the monthly gross pay, allowances, night duty arrangements and deductions in writing.
From the scale to the amount you receive
On UGX 1,421,634 a month, PAYE is UGX 314,740 in a month without Local Service Tax. A nurse on pensionable terms, who is outside NSSF, would receive UGX 1,106,894 before loans or other deductions. Local Service Tax for this pay is UGX 100,000 a year, usually taken in four parts from July to October.
