General Summary

The laboratory technical officer will support Laboratory Sample management, Testing and Biosafety Biosecurity measures, daily analysis for patient samples for differential diagnoses, process control, Corrective Action and Preventive Action, laboratory documentation and compile daily updates on laboratory performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise in the laboratory sample collection, packaging and transportation
  • Work with reference laboratories to coordinate quality testing and analysis for epidemic prone diseases.
  • Perform routine patient care testing to support case management team.
  • Support day to day operations of the case management laboratories, Equipment maintenance, Quality Assurance and laboratory staff competence.
  • Request and monitor laboratory supplies/PPE to avoid stock outs and PPE to support laboratory interventions.
  • Implement QMS, Standard operating procedures, job aids for testing and equipment maintenance.
  • Conduct Biosafety and waste management procedures to maintain routine healthy, hygienic, safety aspects and work place needs with MoH guidelines.
  • Support timely retrieval of laboratory results from Results Dispatch System and monitoring Turn Around Time.
  • Compile daily, weekly and monthly National Ebola reports in support of the National Laboratory Sub-pillar and IMT in line with the key performance indicators.
  • Any other duties assigned.

Academic Qualifications

  • • Bachelor’s degree in laboratory technology, microbiology, biomedical sciences, or a related field obtained from a chartered university. • Additional training in public health, laboratory quality management, or biosafety is an added advantage • Registered with a professional regulatory body (e.g., Allied Health Professionals Council) • Hands-on experience in a clinical, research, or public health laboratory setting • Familiarity with basic laboratory equipment and safety protocols
