Job Description

  • Prepare nutritious, hygienic and well-presented meals according to the school’s menu and requirements.
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and safety.
  • Properly store, handle and prepare food to prevent contamination and wastage.
  • Ensure the kitchen, cooking equipment and utensils are kept clean and in good condition.
  • Assist with monitoring food stocks and report shortages or damaged supplies.
  • Follow portion-control and food preparation guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with other catering staff to ensure meals are prepared and served on time.
  • Comply with all school health, safety and hygiene requirements.

Qualifications

  • Relevant training or qualification in catering, cookery or a related field will be an added advantage.
  • Previous experience as a cook, preferably in a school, institution, hotel or similar setting.
  • Good knowledge of food hygiene and safe food-handling practices.
  • Ability to prepare a variety of nutritious meals.
  • Good time-management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • High levels of cleanliness, responsibility and professionalism.
